VERSION FRANCAISE

THE MEDIA

Sport remains as popular as ever in 2015. Tournaments generate a good deal of attention and the actual results are broadcast in the center of Hill Valley. To this end a hologram communicates with passers by so the information is, if anything, hard to avoid.

Baseball

On Wednesday 21 October 2015, the Chicago Cubs win the Baseball championship final against Miami.

WAY TO GO CUBBIES !

Marty is astonished to find that Miami have a team, non-existent when the film was released. However the California Marlins, based in Miami, have since appeared in 1991.

Look closely at one of the headlines in USA TODAY : a pitcher is suspended for using a bionic arm.

Slamball

We know next to nothing of this sport. Its existence is only hinted at in BTTF II. From the paper we can tell that the slamball championship finals have begun. It is also one of Needles' sporting pastimes, along with jogging and tennis.

An actual slamball game was scheduled for the shoot but was cancelled for the sake of expediency.

Basketball

Through the dialogue between Needles and Marty Sr we find out that Needles is an avid basketball fan

Athletics

USA TODAY reports that a certain Marshall has run the mile (=1609,347m) in under 3 minutes. Needless to say this currently seems impossible.

LEISURE

Jogging, slamball and tennis

These three well established sports are all practised by Needles.

Golf

Despite his age (77) George McFly continues to play Golf. This is how he threw his back.

Hoverboards & Co

The hoverboard and other similar devices are among the favourite leisure items of the younger generation.

Cycling

The bicycle remains a good means of losing calories. In the Cafe 80s customers can pedal whilst eating their meals. The bikes of the future have a slightly altered look. They can be seen two or three times in the film, around the town hall square. A police officer stops a wayward cyclist when Marty reaches the square.

Surfing

A poster advertises surfing holidays in Vietnam. The travel company is called USAir...

Water Skiing

During the hoverboard pursuit, Marty grabs a water ski cable attached to a flying jeep. Are hovercars used to pull the future's water ski enthusiasts ? In fact the jeep itself is carrying what appear to be surf boards, but no skis...

Shooting

In the Cafe 80's, the children's marked lack of enthusiasm for the shooting game Wild Gunman leads one to question the sports standing in the future.
