The rejuvenation clinic

During his first trip in 2015 Doc Brown, mindful of medical advances, has a full body make-over. He describes the operations he underwent in the rejuvenation clinic of the future :

• took out some wrinkles
• did a hair repair
• changed the blood
• replaced the spleen
• replaced the colon
• added a good thirty or forty years to Doc's life

Why do all this ? Doc does have a tendency to use time travel to personal ends and a huge gain in life expectancy is no laughing matter.

However Doc's trip to this Clinic is not neccesarily down to self-interest alone ; there are a number of other possible explanations.

• His scientific curiosity could push him to undergo these operations
• Doc wanted to devote as much time as possible to his self-assigned "mission" in the field of time travel
• In 2015 his future self would, assuming he is still around, be almost 90 years old. The future Doc (2015) will certainely benefit from the medical advances of the time. Going to the youth clinic at his age in 1985 Doc is effectively pre-empting operations he will undergo in the future anyway

In the first BTTF Christopher Lloyd, who plays Doctor Emmett Brown, was made up to make the 1985 Doc look older. Most of the film is set in 1955 so this wasn't unduly problematic. For the sequels Lloyd didn't want to wear the same make up throughout the shoots, hence the scene explaining his newly-found youth.
